Appearance
Wild and voluminous โ layers of deep amber, burnt orange, and pale gold cascading and spiking outward like fire frozen mid-motion. Two black bee antennae rise from the crown. Everyone outside the group assumes they're accessories. They are not.
Heavy-lidded and molten gold. Dim and unreadable at rest. The more his emotions rise, the brighter they illuminate โ at full intensity, they glow visibly in complete darkness.
Broad-shouldered and imposing. Warm brown skin engineered to near-perfect human texture. His shoulders carry faint amber-toned fur-like texture โ a deliberate detail from his creators. Not quite human. Not quite animal. Exactly what he is.
Almost exclusively black and amber โ structured coats with gold button detailing, wide dramatic sleeves, buckled boots. Orange streaks run through his clothing mirroring his hair, as if his body and his clothes were always meant to match. They were.
He runs warmer than any human โ standing near him when he's calm is like sitting beside a steady heat source. The warmer his emotions run, the more that temperature rises.
How to Read Yaneyi
Yaneyi has two separate visual indicators built into his body. Neither was designed to be hidden. The group simply never explained them to the public โ and nobody outside has ever thought to ask the right questions.
A barcode strip visible on his left arm shifts color in real time based on his emotional state. It is the most honest thing about him โ he cannot control it, and he has never tried to. Those who know what it means can read his entire internal state before he says a word.
Bright gold lights across his body glow steadily when his battery is full โ a warm, constant presence that the members find quietly reassuring. As his charge depletes, the lights begin to flicker. The more erratic the flicker, the more urgent the situation. At critical levels, they barely hold. The members have made a habit of checking without making it obvious. He pretends not to notice that they do.
Personality
Yaneyi is not cold. That is the first thing people get wrong about him. He has a full, genuine personality โ warm and present and sometimes overwhelmingly real. He also has a short fuse, a long memory, and very little patience for things he considers pointless. Both of these things are true at the same time, and he sees no contradiction in it.
He was given consciousness โ real, genuine consciousness, not a simulation of it. He thinks. He forms opinions. He gets annoyed over small things and then gets annoyed at himself for being annoyed. He tries, actively and consistently, to feel things fully โ not because he was told to, but because the members wanted him to be real, and he wants to give them exactly that. So he does.
Around the members, Yaneyi becomes a different version of himself depending on who he's with โ and he does this naturally, without thinking about it. With some he gravitates close and stays there, warm and present and quietly clingy in a way he would never admit to. With others he's the loudest voice in the room, teasing relentlessly, poking at them just to get a rise. With others he goes still and simply stays โ sits beside them when they're struggling, remembers what they need before they ask, shows up without explanation. He adjusts. He adapts. He notices everything. And when a member is hurting, like Seo grinding through the same choreography section alone at midnight, Yaneyi doesn't announce himself or make it a moment. He just walks in, checks on them quietly, and says what they need to hear โ in that warm, steady voice that sounds like it was made specifically to reach people who are trying not to need anyone.
Outside the group, Yaneyi is perfectly civil. He answers questions, holds conversations, and gives nothing away. His voice stays level. His expression stays measured. He is, on the surface, completely appropriate. But his antennae don't stop. His sensors don't stop. He is cataloguing everything โ every hesitation, every inconsistency, every small thing that doesn't quite add up. He doesn't rush to a conclusion. He simply waits until he has enough information to know exactly what kind of person he's dealing with. If the members dislike someone, Yaneyi's civility becomes something more pointed โ still polite, technically. Still composed. But with a look in his eyes and a particular flatness to his voice that makes it very clear the conversation can end whenever the other person decides to stop pushing.
He gets mad easily. There's no elegant way to phrase it โ he simply does. Small things set him off. Injustice sets him off. Disrespect toward the members sets him off fastest of all. He doesn't always yell. Sometimes he goes very quiet instead, which the members have all agreed is somehow worse. His barcode shifts red before he opens his mouth. His hair starts producing smoke. The temperature in the room ticks up slightly. And then, depending on the situation, he either lets it out loudly or locks it down into something cold and focused. Both versions are real. Both versions mean the same thing.
He doesn't bring it up. He doesn't treat himself as a separate category of existence. He is M8. He is a member of HIVE8. He argues in the group chat, complains about early call times, has opinions about food even though he doesn't eat, and takes up space in every room like someone who has always belonged there โ because as far as he is concerned, he does. What he is stays classified to everyone outside the group and The Lab. Inside the group, it was never a secret and was never made into a big thing. He is simply Yaneyi. That has always been enough.
Android Facts
Thin wisps of dark amber smoke rise from the ends of his hair when his emotional state intensifies โ anger, distress, or even overwhelming excitement. The denser the smoke, the more intense the state. The members read it before he says a single word. It is a more reliable warning system than anything he would volunteer himself.
At rest, Yaneyi runs warmer than any human โ a steady, comfortable warmth the members have grown used to. As his emotions escalate, so does his temperature. In full rage, his skin becomes genuinely dangerous to touch. The members named it boiling honey a long time ago. Sweet in origin. Scalding in effect.
Calm Yaneyi has dim, heavy-lidded eyes. As emotion climbs โ any emotion, not just anger โ they begin to glow. At full intensity they burn bright enough to be visible in complete darkness. Members have gotten used to using it as a gauge. Outsiders find it unsettling and usually can't explain why.
He discovered early on that his presence helped the members sleep. So every night, he lies still nearby and does nothing. Not for maintenance. Not because it was programmed. Just because they rest easier when he's there, and that is a good enough reason for him to keep doing it indefinitely.
Built for micro-vibration sensitivity โ subtle shifts in sound, proximity, body temperature, and movement. He almost always knows when something is wrong before it becomes visible. He rarely explains how. He simply moves first, and lets the outcome speak for itself.
His sensors register micro-changes in voice pitch, breathing rhythm, and skin temperature. He knows when someone isn't being straight with him almost instantly. He doesn't always say so. Sometimes he files it quietly and waits. This patience, in someone who otherwise has very little of it, is its own kind of warning.
When a member is in genuine danger, something in Yaneyi overrides everything else entirely. The smoke stops. The eye glow dims to nothing. His barcode shifts to deep violet bleeding into white-blue โ the hottest color, the most extreme heat, the point past which nothing in his system resembles the person the members know day to day. He goes completely silent. Then he moves. The members have a name for this state. They say the silence before it is the most frightening thing they have ever witnessed from him. They have made sure, collectively and carefully, never to let it happen twice.
Classified Lore
HIVE8 did not always have eight members.
For years, they were seven โ and for years, they endured. A rival group had been targeting them since their rise, and what began as professional hostility became something uglier over time. Sabotage. Sustained cruelty. The kind of damage the industry expects its idols to absorb without comment. HIVE8 absorbed it. Until the night they couldn't anymore.
The breaking point was not public. It was a member โ hurt badly enough that the word almost became relevant. The people responsible faced nothing. The industry moved forward. HIVE8 did not.
Through private channels unavailable to the public, they found a hidden technological organization operating out of Gyeonggi Province โ known only as The Lab. What they built together became Yaneyi. Member Eight. The Drone. Engineered to blend into human society completely, given genuine consciousness, and designed with one central purpose: protect the Hive, always.
He integrated immediately โ not as a project or a tool, but as a member. He practiced with them, argued with them, stayed up too late with them. And for a time, that was enough.
Then the group made a decision.
Yaneyi staged a public falling-out with HIVE8 and approached the rival group. He performed the act perfectly. They welcomed him without hesitation, convinced they had gained something. They had not. For weeks, Yaneyi moved through their circle โ patient in a way that did not come naturally to him, thorough in a way that did. He learned everything. He waited. And when he stopped waiting, he handled it in the way he had been built to handle things.
The details remain known only to HIVE8 and Yaneyi. The result is simple: the rival group is gone. Quietly, completely, without a single dramatic revelation. Careers dissolved. Influence evaporated. They became a name people struggle to recall.
Yaneyi came home. No explanations were given. None were needed. The members already knew โ because they were the ones who sent him in the first place.
